Here are the answers to some of your most frequent questions when buying shoe chains and snow chains. If there is something else you would like to know, give us a call.

For some tyre sizes, you recommend that I check my vehicle manufacturer’s instructions. Why?

Tyre snow chains can cause clearance problems on some vehicles. Check your vehicle handbook or ask your dealer to see if it is safe to fit snow chains.

I can’t find a RUD Comfort Centrax snow chain in my tyre size.

We do carry the full range of RUD snow chains for tyres. If your tyre size is not shown, then RUD chains are not manufactured in that size.

Do I need to jack up my vehicle to fit snow chains?

No you don’t! RUD chains are easy to fit, and you don’t need any special tools.

How many tyre chains are there in a set?

Each set includes two RUD tyre chains. Normally, you only need to fit snow chains on your drive wheels.

Do you have any tips for fitting tyre chains?

When you first get your RUD tyre chains, it is a good idea to try them out on grass. This will confirm that they are right for your vehicle, and let you practice in comfort before it starts to snow!

Often, you will need to put on your RUD chains when it is cold, dark and wet. Keep a torch, rubber gloves and an old mat in your car, so you can see what you are doing and keep clean and dry.

Why are there no RUD chains available for my vehicle?

If your vehicle has sports wheels and tyres, fitting snow chains can damage the body work and suspension struts. Snow chains can also damage the steering linkage if you turn full-lock.

I can’t fit snow chains because my car has sports wheels. What can I do?

One good option is to replace your wheels in the winter. This will prevent damage to your body work, and is a good idea anyway as salt and sand can damage expensive alloy wheels. You should be able to pick up second hand wheels and tyres relatively cheaply from a breaker’s yard.

Do I need snow chains on all four wheels if I have a 4x4?

Putting snow chains on all four wheels can give you better traction, but it is not required.

Do I need special snow chains if I have ABS brakes?

No, you can use regular RUD snow chains.

Do you sell second-hand snow chains?

For your safety, we only sell high quality new snow chains. For the same reason, we also do not offer part-exchange for used snow chains.

Can I modify my tyre snow chains to fit different size wheels?

We don’t recommend trying this, as it is both dangerous and difficult to do.
